wallscneryAnother gem from the submissions page has landed in the form of some really nice relaxing music. Maybe it’s that summer is upon us and I’m really digging the evening air with the Wallscenery’s demo tracks wafting in with it. Their music is relaxed and chill. They kind of remind me of plus or minus.

Plus look at the fantastic job they did of submitting their band!

The wallscenery demos is a guitar driven project that dabbles in spaced-out soundtracks as well as indie folk pop. Formed by James Hicken (x the little pilgrims, x battery point), The 1st WSD record was released independently in march 2008. The record is self produced, designed, recorded, manufactured, and floats from beginning to end.

13 and God
Looking for something different? You’ve come to the right place. 13 & God offers one of the most unique musical experiences. This German underground hip-hop group is heavy on complicated, stylized rhythms that start and stop in precise sequencing that begs attention.

Growing verbose? Sorry.

Electronic Underground Indie Hip-hop Rock

13 & God demands interesting labels like this to describe their sound. The unique voice is sometimes rap like while retaining classic sining choruses. Overall their sound lends it self to perfect late night listening. The quirky and sometimes technical lyrics are interesting enough to focus in on or space out to.

Because 13 & God pulls it’s inspiration from different genres (look for the bands Notwist, Oakland and Themselves) and different continents (half the band is German, the other half is American) the music is a melody of styles mixed to create something new and totally different.

Do yourself a favor and take a listen.

Jose GonzalezJosé González takes simple guitar parts and makes them sound intricate and interesting. Debuting on the scene with a style and tone that modernizes classic groups like Simon and Garfunkel; Jose Gonzalez writes rich Indie folk music on his classical guitar to sooth the soul.

In spite of his name Jose Gonzalez was actually born in Sweden and uses his American-European roots to come up with interesting melodies alongside covers. The young artist has a solid command of his guitar and is able to make use of subtle emphasis to add an extra dimension to his guitar playing. His cover of “Heartbeats” (originally by The Knife) has gained recognition and been featured in an award winning commercial for Bravia. It seems strange to link to a commercial but if anyone hasn’t seen this they need to. It’s beautiful. (Click on read more)

His debut album (and only album at the time of writing), Veneer, is full of a subtle passion that any music lover can appreciate.

God and the Devil Are Raging Inside Me by Brand NewBrand New is most commonly described as being Rock or even Alternative Rock but has roots in New York local hardcore. Even though they’ve been around since 2000 the band gained widespread appeal with the album “Deja Entendu” which is French for “Already Heard,” probably a play on Deja Vu, “Already Seen”.

Their greatest strength is their song writing. Lyrics are easy to hear, understand and beg to be sung along to. Most songs have a quiet build up with a satisfying speed up and blow out. The explemplar of their style would be the song “Sic Transit Gloria.” The title is taken from the latin phrase “Sic Transit Gloria Mundi” which means “thus passes the glory of the world.” Check out the media after the jump for a listen.

If Brand New has a weakness, it is their live shows. They seem to have a hard time keeping in time and playing well with each other. They are worth a listen and have great music for guitar and bass players to learn.
