I doubt it’s much of a secret at this point but I do want to spread the word about SadSteve.com.

I visit SadSteve on a daily basis as it is a great place to find new music. I really don’t understand how the site hasn’t been shut down because most - if not all - of the mp3’s you can find on SadSteve are available for download.  I think that it has to do with the fact that SadSteve doesn’t actually host any of the mp3 files available there, they simply point you in the right direction and let you decide whether or not you will just stream the track or download it.

I most recently used SadSteve to search for that Chairlift song "Bruises" on the iPod Nano commerical.

I hope that SadSteve makes you happy this weekend.

Sparrow House is a little known one-man project that is definitely worth some headphone time. I can’t remember how I stumbled across Sparrow House but I definitely want to spread the word.

Jared Van Fleet is the voice and the guitar behind the band name. Jared also plays in Voxtrot and has released only one EP for Sparrow House called Falls. Jared plans on releasing at least 4 EP’s under the Sparrow House moniker and I hope he does.

MP3’s and a video after the jump.

I asked my wife how she would describe Ben Sollee and she said, “It’s like- indie-folkish, heavy on the folk. He’s got a great voice”. Deep. I would add to that and say Ben Sollee is a good pick-me-up with his catchy lyrics and unique mix of classical and modern instruments.

Ben’s debut album, Learning to Bend, is awesome. Reminds me of Andrew Bird without the whistling and with a cello instead of a violin. Favorite songs include: “Bury Me With My Car,” “A Change Is Gonna Come,” “Built For This,” and “It’s Not Impossible.”

Here’s a video of “How to See The Sun Rise”. Love it.

If you like Ben Sollee, try: Wilco, Andrew Bird, and Damien Rice.

Kings of Leon

A friend of mine tipped me off to Kings of Leon a week or two ago and I’m all about them right now. Some of you are thinking, “How is it possible that the Shepizzle hadn’t heard of Kings of Leon until now?”, others of you are thinking, “King of Leon? Isn’t that the new expansion pack from World of Warcraft?” Two both groups I say, “Stop hating and listen to the music!”

Kings of Leon is really refreshing. They play really rad indie rock with a Southern twist. I really haven’t heard anything this unique in a while. The lead vocals are enough to keep you coming back for more and the music is interesting enough to be very memorable (in a good way). These three brothers and their cousin know what they are doing when it comes to indie rock.

Here’s one of my favorite songs by Kings of Leon, it’s Ragoo. That one was for you Markkquese!

If you like Kings of Leon, try: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Cold War Kids, and The Raconteurs.

Here’s a submission to check out:

We’re The Zookeepers, originally from Cape Cod, we’re now mostly stationed in Boston. We’ve played numerous shows around the country, played with such bands as The Mae Shi, Chicago rap duo Yea Big + Kid Static, JEFF The Brotherhood (the side-project of Be Your Own Pet’s founding members Jake and Jamin Orrall), and tons of others.

Plus, we’ve recently gotten a good amount of critical acclaim, both for our live set and for our music. Below there are links to the band myspace as well as to a free download of our newest album. An album artrocker.com gave a 5/5 and describes as “the album The Unicorns’ younger brothers would make. It’s party music for the leprechauns jumping up and down inside your head.”

They do kind of remind me of The Unicorns with their bare-bones indie rock. Enjoy ya’ll!

Here’s a song from a guy with some potential. As far as we can tell, this is the only song he has released under the name “Pink Bismuth.” This song has a sound that is both relaxing and unique. The soothing folk inspired sounds and touching lyrics kept us coming back for more.

We have high hopes for this new undiscovered artist we hope he releases some more enigmatic music like this soon.
